Stebnyk resident Serhii Skirka, who was killed in Donetsk region, will be received on 1 July

The Drohobych community has reported the death of Ukrainian defender, Stebnyk native Serhii Skirka. The serviceman was killed on 20 July 2024 in the area of the settlement of Prohres, Pokrovskyi district, Donetsk region, while carrying out combat missions to defend Ukraine.

Serhii Skirka was born on 3 November 1977 and lived in Stebnyk on Mykhailo Hrushevskyi Street. He studied at Stebnyk Secondary School No. 18 and later obtained a trade at Stebnyk Vocational School No. 30. Throughout his working life he was employed as a bricklayer in construction.

On 23 May 2024 he was called up to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a private in the 2nd mechanised squad of the 3rd mechanised platoon of the 1st mechanised company of the 1st mechanised battalion of military unit A4699. From 20 July 2024 the soldier was considered missing in action.

Only on 26 June 2026 was a ruling on identification received, which officially confirmed that Serhii Skirka, remaining faithful to the military oath and showing resilience and courage in battle, was killed on 20 July 2024 in Donetsk region.

The fallen soldier was a loving son, a kind brother and a loyal friend. He is mourned by his mother, his brother with his wife and children, and his sister with her husband and daughter.

The Drohobych City Council, its executive committee, Mayor Taras Kuchma and Council Secretary Orest Karakevych have expressed their condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the fallen warrior.

The funeral cortege with the body of Serhii Skirka will be received on 1 July. At 13:00 the cortege will arrive at the Heroes crossroads, and at 13:30 a citywide farewell will begin on Shevchenko Square in Stebnyk.

The funeral service will be held in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Stebnyk. The burial will take place at the cemetery on Mekelyta Street.
