Forever 52: Ruslan Shymchuk from Sokal Dies in Accident, Community Bids Farewell to the Hero

The community of Sokal mourns the tragic loss of their Hero — Ruslan Shymchuk, who passed away on July 14, 2025, as a result of an unfortunate accident. He was 52 years old.

Ruslan Yevheniyovych was born on October 13, 1973, in the village of Zastavne in Volyn region. Since 1980, he had lived in the town of Sokal. In 1989, he graduated from Sokal Secondary School No. 1, then completed his studies at the Sokal Vocational Lyceum.

In 1994, he married Natalia, and together they raised a son, Serhii.

On December 20, 2024, Ruslan was called to military service and served in the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. He actively took part in combat missions, frequently operating in the most dangerous hotspots on Ukraine’s eastern front.

Tragically, his life was cut short due to an accident.

The farewell ceremony for Ruslan Shymchuk will take place on Thursday, July 18, at 2:00 p.m. near the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Sokal. A memorial service and funeral will follow. Ruslan will be laid to rest at the Alley of Glory in his hometown.

Heartfelt condolences go to his son Serhii, wife Natalia, aunt Halyna, uncles Vasyl, Ivan, and Leonid, fellow soldiers, and the entire family.
