Truskavets Bids Farewell to Hero Oleh Hamera

Truskavets bids farewell to its son Oleh Hamera, who died in the war.

Church bells ring and the mournful melody of ‘Plyve Kacha Po Tysyni’ echoes. People kneel and bow their heads in grief and respect. The funeral procession rides through Truskavets to the Church of St. Nicholas. Here, in the church chapel, the body of fallen warrior Oleh Hamera, a 27-year-old man who served as sniper-recon, was laid today.

Warrior Oleh Hamera arrived ‘on the shield’. The gathering began with a joint prayer at the Heroes’ Crossroads, led by seven priests from Truskavets, Stebnyk, Dobrohostiv, and Stanyli. Relatives of Oleh, representatives of the authorities, volunteers, and concerned people came to the Heroes’ Crossroads. Those who could not come to this symbolic place in Drohobychshchyna greeted the warrior near the church.

Oleh Hamera lived a short, yet bright, eventful life. It is a pity it ended so tragically and unexpectedly. Born in Truskavets in 1998, he studied, worked, dated a girl, and his daughter was born here. His future plans, dreams, and hopes were tied to Truskavets. The cursed war erased them, destroyed them completely.

Now Oleh is in the Heavenly Army, watching his native city, his grandmother and grandfather, classmates, comrades, everyone he knew and crossed paths with in life from above. He is now in truth, and his life’s sacrifice grants him the right to be called a Hero.

Oleh Hamera stood defending Ukraine for four years. He served and was seriously wounded. Crawling on his belly, with clenched teeth and hellish pain, he prayed to God for strength. He escaped encirclement, survived, and underwent rehabilitation. He was awarded the medal ‘For Blood Sacrifice in the Fights for Ukraine’s Freedom’.

However, relentless fate spares no one, and death caught up with the warrior on October 18 in Kharkiv region, near Chuhuiv.

Many people of Truskavets knew Oleh Hamera, so the news of his death was a shock and pain.

You can bid farewell to the warrior today at the chapel of St. Nicholas Church. A parastas will be held there at 18:30.

The funeral will take place on Thursday, October 30, at 12:00.

Eternal and bright memory to warrior Oleh Hamera and Heavenly Kingdom. May his spilled blood and life’s sacrifice become the foundation for Ukrainian Victory and a just order in the future. Oleh Hamera will forever remain in our hearts, in our memory, in the Book of Heroes of Ukraine.
