In the Velyki Mosty community it is three years since the day when, in the battle for Ukraine, its defender Vasyl Skrupskyi was killed. A sergeant and infantry fighting vehicle commander, he fell in the line of duty near the village of Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia region as a result of artillery fire.
Vasyl Skrupskyi was born on 29 July 1982 in the village of Kupychvolia. He studied at the local school and later qualified at Chervonohrad VPU No. 11. After his compulsory military service, he worked in the state security service.
In 2015 he first took up arms, carrying out combat missions in the area of the anti-terrorist operation. For his courage and service, he was awarded the “ATO Participant” decoration and the medal “War Veteran”.
With the start of the full-scale invasion, Vasyl Skrupskyi left his job abroad and returned to Ukraine to once again join the ranks of the defenders. For him, taking part in the defence of the state was a conscious choice of honour and love for his Homeland.
His comrades-in-arms remember Vasyl Skrupskyi as a caring commander, a reliable friend and a patriot who remained faithful to his oath and combat duty until the end.
For his personal bravery and heroism, Vasyl Skrupskyi was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” Third Class and honoured with the title “Hero of the Velyki Mosty Territorial Community”.
The community’s residents, his relatives, friends and comrades in arms remember the fallen warrior with gratitude and sorrow, bowing their heads before his sacrifice and service to Ukraine.
