In Boryslav, a memorial plaque in honour of police officer and defender of Ukraine Andriy Dovhyi has been unveiled on the facade of the building of Police Station No. 1 of the Drohobych District Police Department. The ceremony took place on the first anniversary of his death, with the participation of the leadership of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region, police officers, representatives of the local authorities, community residents, as well as the fallen warrior’s family, friends and comrades-in-arms.
Those present honoured the memory of Andriy Dovhyi with a minute of silence. As noted by the police, he was a responsible, principled and dedicated law enforcement officer who served for many years in various units.
Andriy Dovhyi was born on 1 June 1988 in the village of Zhdanivka in the Drohobych area. In 2008, he began his service in the internal affairs bodies, and later continued it in the National Police. He took up the defence of Ukraine back in 2014, carrying out combat missions in the anti-terrorist operation zone.
After the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, Andriy Dovhyi once again went to the front and, as part of the special purpose police battalion KORD (rifle) of the Lviv region police, defended the state in the hottest sectors in Donetsk region. On 26 May 2025, the police senior sergeant sustained a severe wound while carrying out a combat mission. Despite the efforts of medics, his heart stopped on 23 July. He was 37 years old.
“The enemy takes the best of the best. Andriy was a true police officer, warrior and patriot, who took up the defence of the state back in 2014. This memorial plaque will remind future generations of his courage, devotion to Ukraine and self-sacrifice,” said Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region, Police Colonel Roman Turchak.
The wife of the fallen officer, Iryna, shared her memories of her husband, stressing that for her the memorial plaque is above all a remembrance of a person who gave the most precious thing – his life – and she thanked everyone who came to honour him.
Colleagues and loved ones remember Andriy Dovhyi as a sincere, kind and open person who loved life and music, had many friends and was godfather to five children. For his courage and self-sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the “Badge of Honour” of the National Police of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s breast badge “Golden Cross”.
The memory of Andriy Dovhyi, who gave his life for the freedom and independence of Ukraine, will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and colleagues, as well as in his name, forever engraved on the memorial plaque.
