In June, the Stryi community honoured fallen defenders

In June, the Stryi community remembered defenders who were killed at the front or went missing in action and were later identified, as well as the places where they are buried.

Vasyl Lavrys “Komar” (03.06.1988 – 24.06.2017) was killed in the area of the settlement of Sokilnyky in Luhansk region and is buried on the Avenue of Glory at Stryi cemetery. Yevhen Mahometa (30.03.1968 – 21.06.2022) was killed as a result of artillery shelling near the settlement of Spirne in Donetsk region and is buried in the village of Zarichne. Mykhailo Mandziak (08.02.1980 – 21.06.2022), a participant in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), was killed by artillery shelling in the area of the settlement of Novoivanivka in Luhansk region. Ruslan Levko “Bendera” (12.09.1989 – 01.06.2022), a participant in the ATO/Joint Forces Operation (JFO), fought against Russian Federation troops on the eastern axis and is buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Ihor Dovhan “Dok” (18.10.1980 – 03.06.2023) was killed while carrying out a combat mission near the settlement of Ivanivske in Bakhmut district and is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi. Petro Kurpita (13.11.1969 – 05.06.2023) is buried in the village of Dobriany. Bohdan Yurkiv “Baghdad” (25.08.1975 – 11.06.2023) was killed in a small arms battle in the settlement of Miasozharivka in Luhansk region while performing a combat mission and is buried on the Avenue of Glory at Stryi cemetery. Rostyslav Plechii “Matvii” (22.08.1992 – 13.06.2023) was killed in the line of duty during a combat mission in the area of the settlement of Spirne in Bakhmut district of Donetsk region and is also buried on Stryi's Avenue of Glory.

Roman Mushchynka (09.05.1981 – 17.06.2023) was killed in the line of duty in the area of the settlement of Kostyantynivka in Donetsk region and is buried in the village of Yosypovychi. Viktor Hnatyshyn (14.08.1972 – 16.06.2023) was killed in the area of the settlement of Bohoyavlenka in Donetsk region and is buried on the Avenue of Glory at Stryi cemetery. Serhii Martynovych (01.10.1975 – 17.06.2023) was killed in the area of the settlement of Novodanylivka in Zaporizhzhia region while carrying out a combat mission and is buried on the Avenue of Glory at Stryi cemetery. Andrii Drozd (25.09.2002 – 23.06.2023) was killed while performing a combat mission in the settlement of Stepnohirsk in Zaporizhzhia region and is buried in the cemetery of the town of Dashava.

Stepan Kulyk (09.01.1982 – 09.06.2023) went missing in action during artillery shelling in the area of the settlement of Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhzhia region; his identity was established using DNA samples and he is buried on the Avenue of Glory at Stryi cemetery. Yurii Hnativ “Orbit” (03.05.1980 – 02.06.2024) was killed while carrying out a combat mission and was buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi. Dmytro Tsish (08.11.1988 – 22.06.2024) was killed while carrying out a combat mission in Donetsk region and is buried in the village of Uhersko. Mykola Hembych (19.12.1979 – 16.06.2024), an ATO participant, went missing after a battle in Donetsk region; his body was found and identified, and the soldier was buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi.

Ihor Kerytiv (15.03.1985 – 28.06.2024) was killed as a result of a strike by an enemy FPV drone in Donetsk region and is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi. Mykhailo Letsiuk “Mekhas” (30.09.1983 – 07.06.2025), a sergeant and grenadier, was born and lived with his family in Stryi; in May 2022 he volunteered to defend Ukraine, and was killed in the line of duty during a combat mission in the area of the settlement of Shevchenko in Donetsk region; he is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi. Taras Vasyliv “Shpatel” (28.05.1971 – 12.06.2025), a private and machine gunner in a mechanised squad, was mobilised in 2024 and was killed in battle in the area of the settlement of Yunakivka in Sumy region; he is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi.

Serhii Skurtul “Viggo” (29.06.1987 – 13.06.2025), a private and rifleman-assistant grenadier of the 2nd Assault Battalion of the 3rd Assault Brigade, volunteered to go to the front at the start of the full-scale invasion and in 2024 signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was killed while carrying out a combat mission in the area of the settlement of Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region and is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi. Stepan Kravchuk “Krava” (20.11.1989 – 12.06.2024), a private and sapper in an engineer-sapper squad, volunteered for mobilisation after the liberation of Kherson, and his family moved to Stryi; for more than a year he was listed as missing after mortar shelling in the area of the settlement of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk region. The Hero was identified by DNA sample after the repatriation of bodies to Ukraine and is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi.

Vladyslav Budynkevych “Staryi” (16.11.1976 – 28.06.2024), a rifleman in a rifle squad of a rifle platoon of a military unit, was mobilised into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in March 2024 and that same year went missing in the area of the settlement of Nevelske in Donetsk region; his identity was established using DNA samples and he is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi. Oleh Babii (29.11.1984 – 02.06.2024), a rifleman-operator in a mechanised squad of a military unit, was born and lived in Stryi, took part in the ATO and in 2024 was again called up for military service; while performing a combat mission he went missing near the settlement of Kostyantynivka in Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region, and was found using DNA samples and buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi.

Ivan Telehii “Livsha” (16.06.1988 – 29.06.2024), a senior rifleman-operator in a mechanised battalion, volunteered to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in June 2022, went missing in action after a battle near the settlement of Kostyantynivka in Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region and is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi. Dmytro Kuryachyi “Taksyst” (03.06.1985 – 15.06.2025), a junior lieutenant and commander of the 2nd Air Assault Platoon, mobilised into the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2022; for more than three months he was considered missing in action and his body was identified through DNA analysis; he is buried on the Avenue of Glory in Stryi.
