Dobriavlany to bid farewell to Ukrainian defender Marian Prokopiv

At the Lviv Military Hospital on 26 June, the life of serviceman, defender of Ukraine Marian Prokopiv, came to an end. The soldier was a native of the village of Dobriavlany in the Drohobych community.

Marian Prokopiv was born on 30 August 1988 in Dobriavlany. He studied at Dobriavlany Secondary School and later graduated from the Lviv Medical College “Monada” with a qualification as a paramedic. After his studies, he worked as a masseur at the Batkivshchyna sanatorium in Truskavets.

A week before the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, he went to work in Poland, but on 30 September 2025 he returned to Ukraine. After his return, he was mobilised into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as fit for limited military service and served as a medic in the Bohodukhiv district of Kharkiv region.

In April 2026, the soldier’s health deteriorated sharply, and doctors determined that a heart transplant was necessary. Despite treatment, on 26 June, Marian Prokopiv died at the Lviv Military Hospital.

In mourning for the fallen defender are his wife, daughter, mother, brother and other relatives. The Drohobych City Council, the executive committee, Mayor Taras Kuchma and Council Secretary Orest Karakevych expressed their condolences to the soldier’s family and loved ones.

The arrival of the funeral cortege with the body of Marian Prokopiv at the Heroes’ Crossroads is scheduled for 26 June at 16:00. On the same day at 20:00, a parastas will be held at the warrior’s parental home in the village of Dobriavlany.

The funeral service will be held on 27 June at 10:30 in the Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin in Dobriavlany. Marian Prokopiv will be buried in the local cemetery in his native village.
