The Drohobych community has received sad news: the death of defender Serhii Tanasov, who had been considered missing since March 2025, has been officially confirmed. The warrior’s body is being brought home for burial.
Serhii Tanasov was born on 25 March 1990 in Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia region, and in childhood moved with his family to Drohobych. He lived on Polubotka Street, studied at Secondary School No. 4 and Vocational School No. 19. He worked at the municipal enterprise “Drohobychvodokanal”, later at the company “Nova Poshta”, and his last place of work was LLC “Termoplast”.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Serhii joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. From July 2022 he carried out combat missions in various sectors of the front as part of military unit A0224. On 1 March 2025, while on a combat mission near the settlement of Kostiantynopil in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk region, contact with him was lost, after which the soldier was considered missing. His death has now been officially confirmed.
The fallen defender is survived by his wife and son, his mother and his sister.
The funeral cortege with the warrior’s body will arrive in the Drohobych community on Monday, 19 October. A gathering at the Heroes’ crossroads is scheduled for 12:00. From there, the cortege will proceed to the chapel of the Church of Faith, Hope and Love on Kozlovskoho Street, where a vigil will be held at 19:00.
The funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 in the Church of Faith, Hope and Love. Serhii Tanasov will be laid to rest on the Avenue of Glory.
