On 26 May, the Drohobych community accompanied on his final journey the fallen defender of Ukraine, Drohobych native Andrii Petsiukh, who gave his life defending the freedom and independence of the state.
The funeral cortege arrived in the community, where at the Heroes’ crossroads relatives, friends, comrades-in-arms, clergy and townspeople had gathered. Those present honoured the memory of the soldier with a joint prayer.
The cortege then proceeded to the town square, where at 13:30 a town-wide farewell to the defender took place. After this, the funeral procession moved to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, where at 14:00 the funeral rite was held. The soldier’s burial is planned at the cemetery on Pylypa Orlyka Street.
Andrii Petsiukh took up arms to defend Ukraine at the beginning of 2025. He carried out combat missions as a flamethrower operator of the 2nd infantry squad of the 2nd infantry platoon of the 2nd infantry company of the 5th infantry battalion of military unit A4862.
On 3 July 2025, while carrying out a combat mission in the area of the settlement of Yablunivka in Sumy region, contact with the serviceman was lost, after which he was considered missing in action. Only now has it been possible to confirm the identity of the fallen in order to bring him back to his home town for a dignified farewell and burial.
In grief for Andrii remain his mother, sister and wife. The entire Drohobych community mourns together with the family.
