On Rynok Square in Lviv, the nationwide initiative “BESIDE US” has been launched, within which families and loved ones can place photographs of fallen, captured or missing Defenders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on special walls of remembrance “WE REMEMBER” and “WE WAIT”. The installations will remain in the city centre until 25 May.
On 23 May from 10:00 to 20:00, volunteers are working on Rynok Square, helping participants in the initiative to print a photograph of a Defender directly on site and attach it to the appropriate wall of remembrance. To do this, it is enough to have the image in digital format on a phone or other device.
The initiative is intended to create an open space of remembrance, gratitude and support, where no name will be forgotten and the families of service personnel will not be left alone with their pain and their waiting.
The “WE REMEMBER” and “WE WAIT” walls will remain on Rynok Square until and including 25 May. After Heroes’ Day they will not be dismantled, but will be transferred for permanent display in one of Lviv’s galleries as a symbol of remembrance and of the connection between society and the families of the Defenders.
The organiser of the initiative is the NGO “All-Ukrainian Association ‘Veterans’ Corps'”.
