
A farewell ceremony was held in Lviv for soldier of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Hrudetskyi, who was killed in action on 8 August 2026 while carrying out a combat mission in Kharkiv region.
Oleksandr Hrudetskyi was born on 15 February 1984 in Lviv. In 2003, he graduated from Lviv Higher Vocational School No. 63, where he qualified as a computer typesetter and design draughtsman.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Oleksandr stepped forward to defend Ukraine. In May 2022, he joined the ranks of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. He completed training in communications at the National Academy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and served as senior radiotelegraph operator in the communications group of the rapid response border commandant’s office of the 1st Border Detachment. His work ensured the fulfilment of the unit’s combat missions.
For his role in the defence of Ukraine, Oleksandr Hrudetskyi was honoured with a state award — the President of Ukraine’s distinction “For the Defence of Ukraine”. His comrades remember him as a dedicated serviceman who remained faithful to the oath, to his fellow soldiers and to the Ukrainian people until the very end.
The military funeral service took place at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lviv. Family, friends, comrades-in-arms and fellow servicemen came to pay their last respects to the defender. Oleksandr Hrudetskyi was laid to rest in the military burial ground at the Riasnianske Cemetery.
