On Friday, 25 September, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for serviceman Oleh Vasarab, who gave his life defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities have called on residents of Lviv and visitors to join the farewell and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul. After the service, at approximately 11:30, a city-wide farewell ceremony is planned on Rynok Square. The defender will be laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87 on Pasichna Street.
During the farewell ceremony near the Garrison Church, people kneel along the procession route, many holding flowers in their hands. Ahead of the coffin march servicemen carrying the State Flag of Ukraine and the flag of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oleh Vasarab (07.07.1993 — 17.02.2024) was a Lviv native. He studied at Lyceum No. 18 of the Lviv City Council, and later obtained a higher education at the Lviv Polytechnic National University, specialising in Geodesy and Land Management. After his compulsory military service, he worked as a cable network operator at private enterprises.
According to his family, Oleh was a kind, cheerful and joyful person who always remained an optimist, stood out for his activity and energy, and devoted much of his time to his passions – football and music.
In 2023 he joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders, safeguarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Donetsk direction as part of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade named after Koshovyi Otaman Ivan Sirko of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oleh Vasarab is survived by his mother, sister, stepfather, grandmother, grandfather and other relatives.
