The death has been confirmed of Pavlo Petrovych Yakibchuk, a resident of the village of Solonka, born in 1971, who voluntarily took up arms to defend Ukraine in the first months of the full-scale invasion.
Before the war, Pavlo Yakibchuk worked in the economic sector, served for fifteen years in the State Customs Service of Ukraine, and from 2010 ran a private law practice. In March 2022, he volunteered for the army, became a reconnaissance company commander and fought in the Donetsk and Kharkiv sectors as part of the 103rd Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defence Forces.
For a long time, the serviceman was listed as missing in action. It was later officially confirmed that he was killed on 19 January 2024 while carrying out a combat mission in the Kupiansk sector.
For his service and bravery, Pavlo Yakibchuk was honoured with the decorations “For Valour and Loyalty”, the medal of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine “To the Defender of Ukraine” and the distinction of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine “Cross of the Territorial Defence Forces”.
The fallen defender is survived by his wife Oksana, daughter Marta-Sofiia, sons Petro and Dmytro, a grandson and nieces and nephews, as well as his parents Olha and Petro.
The farewell ceremony for Pavlo Yakibchuk will take place on 25 August: at 14:00 in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lviv, followed by the burial at 15:00 in the Field of Honour on Pasichna Street.
