
A ceremony was held in Lviv at which the families of 12 fallen border guards received posthumous state awards for defending Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. This was reported by the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment.
The decorations were presented to the relatives of servicemen of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, the 1st and 4th Border Guard Detachments, the 105th Border Guard Detachment named after Prince Volodymyr the Great, and the 23rd Maritime Guard Detachment.
The Third Class Order "For Courage" (posthumously) was awarded to:
- Senior Soldier Taras Mertsal, a serviceman of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, who was killed on 5 October 2024 in Luhansk region. The award was received by his mother, Olha Vasylivna;
- Soldier Mar'ian Hryshchuk, a serviceman of the 105th Border Guard Detachment named after Prince Volodymyr the Great, who was killed on 9 September 2025 in Donetsk region. The award was received by his wife, Svitlana Bohdanivna.
The "For Military Service to Ukraine" Medal (posthumously) was awarded to:
- Senior Sergeant Mykhailo Melnyk, a serviceman of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, who was killed on 1 February 2025 in Donetsk region. The award was received by his sister, Oksana Stepanivna;
- Staff Sergeant Myroslav Mykhailyshyn, a serviceman of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, who was killed on 7 May 2025 in the area of the settlement of Stroivka. The award was received by his wife, Vira Yaroslavivna, and his son, Vasyl;
- Master Sergeant Oleh Protsailo, a serviceman of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, who was killed on 19 August 2024 in Luhansk region. The award was received by his parents, Ivanna Mykolaivna and Andrii Hryhorovych;
- Senior Soldier Petro Panchyshyn, a serviceman of the 1st Border Guard Detachment, who was killed in Kharkiv region. The award was received by his wife, Ivanna Volodymyrivna, and his daughter, Yuliia;
- Senior Soldier Yaroslav Haiduk, a serviceman of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, who was killed on 31 March 2024 in Donetsk region. The award was received by his wife, Oksana Ihorivna, and his son, Ihor.
The "Defender of the Fatherland" Medal (posthumously) was awarded to:
- Captain Third Rank Serhii Paster, a serviceman of the 23rd Maritime Guard Detachment, who died in captivity on 10 May 2024. The award was received by his wife, Nataliia Yevhenivna, and his daughter, Kateryna;
- Senior Soldier Andrii Horbiak, a serviceman of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, who was killed in Kharkiv region on 17 March 2025. The award was received by his wife, Nataliia Vasylivna, and his daughter, Yuliia-Mariia;
- Senior Sergeant Vitalii Veselov, a serviceman of the 4th Border Guard Detachment, who was killed in Kharkiv region on 11 July 2025. The award was received by his mother, Larysa Yuriivna;
- Master Sergeant Mar'ian Semeniv, a serviceman of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, who was killed in Donetsk region on 26 April 2025. The award was received by his parents, Svitlana Omelianivna and Petro Romanovych;
- Soldier Sviatoslav Osnova, a serviceman of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhenii Pikus, who was killed in Kharkiv region on 8 February 2025. The award was received by his mother, Liubov Yevhenivna.
The 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment emphasised that each of these awards is a testament to the courage and self-sacrifice of Ukrainian defenders, and that their feat will forever remain in the memory of the Ukrainian people.
