On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lviv honoured the memory of fallen heroes

Today, 6 December, is the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On this occasion, Lviv hosted celebrations to honour the memory of all the fallen heroes who fought for our freedom and gave their lives for our independence.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and his deputies Andriy Moskalenko, Liubomyr Zubach and Iryna Kulynych took part in the celebrations.

First, the ceremony of raising the flag of the Armed Forces of Ukraine took place in the park “Na Valakh” on Vynnychenko Street. All those present remembered the fallen soldiers during a minute of silence.

Then, at the Lychakiv Cemetery, relatives and friends of the fallen Heroes, representatives of the city and regional authorities, the public and clergy prayed a memorial prayer, lit candles and laid flowers at the graves of the defenders. They also sang the National Anthem of Ukraine together.

Reference.

The Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was established by a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 1993. The date of the celebration was not chosen by chance – it was on 6 December 1991 that the Law on the Armed Forces of Ukraine was adopted. Despite the fact that each branch of the Armed Forces has its own professional holiday, it is 6 December that unites all Ukrainian servicemen and women.
