Tomorrow, January 9, Lviv will honor and bid farewell to Vasyl Lesniak, a soldier who sacrificed his life defending Ukraine from Russian occupiers. The city council urges residents and visitors to join the farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment or celebrations on this day.
Ceremony Schedule
The farewell ceremony will begin at 9:45 AM at the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church (2 Maksymovycha St.). The funeral rite will take place at 11:00 AM in the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30 AM, a citywide farewell ceremony will be held at Rynok Square.
Vasyl Lesniak will be laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biography of the Hero
Vasyl Lesniak (January 13, 1997 – January 5, 2025) was born and raised in Lviv.
- He studied at Secondary School No. 32.
- Trained as a plumber-gas welder at the Interregional Higher Vocational School of Motor Transport and Construction.
- Completed military service with the National Guard of Ukraine in the Lviv region.
- Worked for nearly five years at Auchan Ukraine Hypermarket LLC.
Vasyl was passionate about cars and sports. Loved ones remember him as a kind-hearted and selfless person, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Following the full-scale Russian invasion, Vasyl joined the 2nd Separate Halych Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, serving on the Donetsk front.
He is survived by his parents and older brother.
