Memorial plaque unveiled in Lviv in honour of defender Serhii Kostochkin

In Lviv, at 5 Hrinchenka Street, a memorial plaque has been unveiled in honour of Serhii Kostochkin, a defender of Ukraine who was killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The commemorative sign was installed on the facade of the building where he lived.

Family members, comrades-in-arms, friends, neighbours and representatives of the city authorities came to the unveiling of the memorial plaque. The mother of the fallen defender, Mrs Oleksandra, together with those present, paid tribute to her son’s memory.

“We are unveiling a memorial plaque to my son Serhii. It was in this building that he lived, dreamed and made plans for the future. From here he went to defend his land, his Ukraine, and it was from here that I saw him off… This memorial plaque will be not only a sign of remembrance. Let everyone who passes by this building remember that behind every Hero’s name there is not just the story of a war, but an entire life,” said Mrs Oleksandra

First Deputy Mayor of Lviv Andrii Moskalenko thanked the defender’s family and stressed that preserving the memory of fallen soldiers is a shared duty of the community. He noted that the feat of Serhii Kostochkin, who gave his life for Ukraine, is one of the highest expressions of service to the state.

Serhii Kostochkin studied at Lviv School No. 43 and received his higher education at the Chernobyl Heroes Fire Safety Academy in Cherkasy. After his studies, he completed compulsory military service in the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo.

Later he served in the State Guard Directorate of Ukraine, worked for the construction company “Avalon”, and for a time lived and worked in Poland. After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Serhii returned to Ukraine and joined the 45th Oleksandr Krasytskyi Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine.

In August 2023, the soldier joined military unit 3043 of the Western Operational and Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine. At first he defended the country in Volyn and Kyiv region, and later fought in the Zaporizhzhia sector.

For personal courage and selfless service shown in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Serhii Kostochkin was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” Third Class.
