On the last day of January, known as Heroes of Kruty Memorial Day, the memory of 50 Ukrainian defenders who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence was honored at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Lviv. The families of the deceased were awarded the “Hero’s Cross” as a symbol of heroism, self-sacrifice, and respect. The ceremony was conducted with the participation of Major Yevhen Moskaltsov and Ivan Kataluev from the command of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
Among those posthumously awarded were Mykhailo Pentsak from Boyany and Andriy Zhydyk. Both fought and died in Donbas, defending Ukraine. Mykhailo, a former squad leader, was recognized for his bravery and dedication. He died in battle on September 5, 2024, in Chasiv Yar. His comrades remember him as a true warrior with a great heart.
Andriy Zhydyk, also a warrior and hero, defended Ukraine under various conditions. His life was cut short on November 19, 2024. His courage can be appreciated not only through his military merits but also through the love and support he showed his family.
These warriors have earned the honor to be forever commemorated. Their courage and sacrifice live in our hearts, filling us with gratitude for the freedom and independence they fought for.
