A new location has been determined in Lviv for the honorary burial of Ukraine’s Defenders.
Due to the filling of the Field of Honorary Burials No. 86a at Lychakiv Cemetery, the new location is situated on a part of Lychakiv Cemetery on the side of Pasichna Street, which was formerly known as ‘Hill of Glory’. ‘This is the only available flat area nearby suitable for the establishment of a new burial sector’, said the Lviv City Council. The new sector will be called Field of Honorary Burials No. 87 and will be divided into 12 sectors.
For over a year, various potential areas were considered in the city. The chosen territory was agreed upon by veterans, families of the deceased, as well as architects and scientists working within the city council’s working group. The area on Pasichna is approximately half the size of that on Mechnykov side. Meanwhile, the city is looking for a new location for a city-wide military-memorial cemetery.
Recall that investigations and exhumation of Soviet burials on the former ‘Hill of Glory’ territory and the reburial of over 350 remains at Lviv’s Holosko Cemetery were carried out by specialists from the LOR Memorial Search Center ‘Dolya’.
