At the K. Maletskyi Morshyn Lyceum in the Stryi district, memorial plaques have been unveiled and consecrated in honour of the soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine's independence. The families and loved ones of the fallen, clergy, government representatives, teachers, pupils and local residents took part in the event, the Lviv Regional Military Administration reported.
The memorials were installed in honour of five defenders connected with Morshyn: Bohdan Hrechyshyn, Andrii Hrushchyk, Vitalii Iodlovskyi, Mykola Komarov and Ivan Okunevskyi.
Bohdan Hrechyshyn was a resident of Morshyn and an unmanned aerial vehicle operator with the 6th unit of unmanned aviation systems of the reconnaissance company of military unit A0224. He was killed on 27 December 2025 while defending the town of Rodynske in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region, at the age of 26.
Andrii Hrushchyk was born in Morshyn, lived in Lviv and held the rank of staff sergeant. He was killed on 8 April in the Pokrovsk sector as a result of a strike by an enemy aerial munition. He was 33.
Vitalii Iodlovskyi lived in Morshyn, was a participant in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and served as a combat medic. In February 2025, as he could not be evacuated from his position, he was admitted for inpatient treatment to a medical facility with frostbite of the lower limbs. He died on 29 March in a hospital in Stryi at the age of 47.
Mykola Komarov, originally from Morshyn, voluntarily took up arms to defend Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale invasion. He served in the 57th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade named after Koshovyi Otaman Kost Hordiienko, carrying out combat missions in Luhansk region. In April 2022, while performing his military duty, he was taken prisoner. After a prolonged period in captivity, he was released on 5 February 2025 and died on 12 February 2026. He was 27.
Ivan Okunevskyi was a resident of Morshyn and an unmanned aerial vehicle operator with the strike UAV unit of the special-purpose company of the rapid deployment battalion of military unit 3028 of the operational-tactical formation of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine "Azov". He was killed on 30 January 2026 while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Svitle in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region, at the age of 45.
Those present honoured the memory of the fallen with a minute of silence and stressed the importance of preserving the memory of Ukraine's defenders.
