Fallen defender of Ukraine Yulian Sosnovskyi returns to Lviv Oblast on his shield. Farewells to the serviceman will take place in Novoiavorivsk and the village of Starychi, where he lived. The community extends its condolences to his family and friends.
Yulian Romanovych Sosnovskyi was born on 23 October 1998 in Novoiavorivsk. Later he lived in the village of Starychi and studied at Starychi General Secondary Education Institution I–III degrees, which he completed in 2014.
He began his military service in 2017, signing a contract for active duty. He served with the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade “Edelweiss” and took part in the anti-terrorist operation. After his contract ended in 2020, he returned to civilian life and worked at the “Hrinplast” enterprise.
With the start of the full-scale invasion, in autumn 2022, Yulian was mobilised to the 129th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade. After being wounded, he continued his service in the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine, with the 14th Operational Brigade “Chervona Kalyna”.
On 14 August 2025, Yulian Sosnovskyi went missing in action while on a combat mission near the village of Novoekonomichne in the Pokrovskyi district of Donetsk Oblast. In March 2026, his identity was confirmed by DNA testing, after which the investigative authorities officially declared him dead. The defender will forever be 27 years old.
Left to mourn Yulian are his mother Nataliia and his sister Zoryana with her husband Oleh.
A prayerful gathering to meet the Defender is scheduled for 21 July:
- in Novoiavorivsk – at 12:00, opposite the city council building;
- in the village of Starychi – at 12:30 by the grave of the Sich Riflemen.
The funeral service will be held in Starychi at 13:00 in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UGCC. The soldier will be laid to rest at the local cemetery in the village of Starychi.
