In the Novoiavorivsk community, people are being called to remember in prayer the Ukrainian servicemen whose lives are connected with August during the years of the Russian-Ukrainian war. This concerns defenders who would have been celebrating their birthdays in August, as well as those who were killed in this month between 2014 and 2026.
Among the soldiers born in August, they remember: Yaroslav Sorych, a resident of the village of Dobrostany. On 1 August he would have turned 33. He was killed on 27 June 2022 in Mykolaiv region, defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers.
A native of Novoiavorivsk, a fighter of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade, Bohdan Havrylov, who would have turned 46 on 3 August. He was killed on 24 August 2024 while carrying out a combat mission to defend the Motherland.
A native of the settlement of Shklo, a serviceman of the 66th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after Prince Mstyslav the Brave, Andrii Sadovyi. On 10 August he would have turned 49. The war took his life on 28 April 2024 in Luhansk region.
A resident of the village of Starychi, a military service veteran, Lieutenant Colonel Andrii Radchenko, who would have turned 57 on 11 August. He died on 11 March 2024.
A native of Novoiavorivsk, a colonel of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Vitalii Kovalchuk. On 14 August he would have turned 45. He was killed on 1 March 2022 while defending Chernihiv from the Russian occupiers.
A native of Novoiavorivsk, Maksym Dranytskyi, who would have turned 26 on 14 August. He was killed on 7 February 2024 in Donetsk region while carrying out a combat mission.
A defender of Ukraine from Novoiavorivsk, Yurii Protsyk. On 17 August he would have turned 42. The serviceman’s life was cut short on 22 October 2024.
A resident of Novoiavorivsk, a volunteer of the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade, Ivan Savchuk. On 19 August he would have turned 32. He was killed on 19 August 2023, on his birthday, heroically defending Ukrainian positions in the Zaporizhzhia sector.
A resident of Novoiavorivsk, a sergeant of the 127th Separate Heavy Mechanised “Kharkiv” Brigade, Artur Leshchenko. On 22 August he would have turned 22. The soldier was killed on 26 May 2026 in Kharkiv region.
A native of Novoiavorivsk, a faithful soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Marian Vashchyshyn. On 29 August he would have turned 31. He was killed on 24 June 2025 while carrying out a combat mission in Sumy region.
A native of the village of Starychi, a defender of Ukraine, Ihor Barandii. On 30 August he would have turned 39. He was killed on 23 March 2024 in Kherson region during defensive operations.
A resident of the village of Starychi, a serviceman of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo, Vladyslav Kosenkov. On 31 August he would have turned 26. He was killed on 11 September 2022 in Kherson region.
The community also remembers the soldiers who were killed specifically in August in different years. Among them is a native of Novoiavorivsk, a senior officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrii Khimka, who was killed on 1 August 2023 in Zaporizhzhia region, defending the state sovereignty of Ukraine. He was 49.
A native of Novoiavorivsk, a defender of Ukraine, Bohdan Turko, was killed on 2 August 2022 while carrying out a combat mission in Donetsk region. He was 30.
A resident of Novoiavorivsk, commander of a surface-to-air missile section, Stepan Rudnitskyi, was killed on 6 August 2025.
A native of Novoiavorivsk, a private of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo, Oleksandr Oros, was killed on 11 August 2021 in Luhansk region. He was 51.
A native of the settlement of Ivano-Frankove, a defender of Ukraine, Arsen Rudchenko, died in captivity of the occupiers on 12 August 2023. He was 51.
A resident of Novoiavorivsk, a talented woodcarver and soldier, Yurii Matseliukh, was killed on 13 August 2023 in Zaporizhzhia region. He was 45.
A resident of the village of Starychi, a fighter of the 14th Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Chervona Kalyna”, Yulian Sosnovskyi, was killed on 14 August 2025 in Donetsk region.
A resident of Novoiavorivsk, a fighter faithful to his military oath, Ivan Sas, was killed on 15 August 2024 while carrying out a combat mission.
A native of the village of Rohizno, a fighter of the “Stuhna” battalion, Mykhailo Matviiv (Melnyk), was killed on 18 August 2022 in battle with Russian occupiers in Mykolaiv region. He was 33.
A resident of Novoiavorivsk, a defender of Ukraine, Kostiantyn Dziun, was killed on 18 August 2024 in the Zaporizhzhia sector.
A defender of Ukraine, Hennadii Samoilenko, a caring father and loving husband, was killed on 19 August 2022 in the combat zone in Donetsk region.
A resident of the village of Novyny, a fighter of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo, Taras Pazyn, was killed in the battle for Ilovaisk on 25 August 2014. He was 24.
A native of Novoiavorivsk, Senior Lieutenant and company commander, Ihor Kurliatovych, was killed on 27 August 2023 in Donetsk region. He was 41.
The community emphasises that the names of all these soldiers will forever remain in people’s memory, and their sacrifice is a reminder of the price of Ukraine’s freedom.
