On 11 August in Novoiavorivsk, a farewell and funeral will be held for Ukraine defender Ihor Vuitsik, who returns home on his shield. The serviceman went missing in action during fierce fighting in the Pokrovsk sector of Donetsk region and was later identified by DNA and officially declared dead by the investigative authorities.
Ihor Ihorovych Vuitsik was born on 11 July 1980 in the village of Koty. Later, his family moved to Novoiavorivsk, where he studied at Novoiavorivsk General Secondary Educational Institution I–III levels No. 1. After school, he trained as a carpenter-woodcarver at Vocational Art School No. 14 in the settlement of Ivano-Frankove, and went on to obtain a higher education at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
After completing his studies, Ihor did his compulsory military service and then stayed on in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a contract basis. When his contract ended, he worked for a private security service and also gained experience in a jewellery workshop. After getting married, he and his wife lived in the settlement of Shklo.
In 2021, Ihor Vuitsik once again joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and took up the defence of the country. On 16 November 2024, during intense fighting in the Pokrovsk sector of Donetsk region, he went missing in action. In July 2026, the serviceman was identified by DNA examination and officially recognised as deceased.
Left to mourn Ihor Vuitsik are his mother Mariia, father Ihor, wife Oksana with their sons Maksym, Oleh and Stanislav, grandmother Kateryna, as well as his brother Yurii with his family and his sister Antonina with her family.
The farewell events for the fallen defender will take place on 11 August. A prayer gathering will be held:
- in the settlement of Shklo at 12:30 near the serviceman’s family home at 13A Sahaidachnoho Street;
- in Novoiavorivsk at 13:00 at 5 50th Anniversary of the UPA Street, opposite the Heroes’ Memorial Alley.
The funeral rite will be conducted in Novoiavorivsk at 13:30 in the Church of SS. Peter and Paul, after which the soldier will be buried in the town’s local cemetery.
