Farewell to Ukraine’s defender Vasyl Mazorchuk to be held in Novoiavorivsk

38-year-old defender of Ukraine Vasyl Mazorchuk, who sustained severe injuries during a combat mission, died on 22 July 2026. A farewell ceremony for the serviceman will be held in Novoiavorivsk.

Vasyl Oleksandrovych Mazorchuk was born on 28 November 1987 in Novoiavorivsk. He spent his childhood and school years in the village of Vaskivtsi in the Khmelnytskyi region. After finishing his studies, he worked as a labourer and later moved to Volyn, where he began a new chapter of his life.

His family remember Vasyl as a hard-working, sincere and cheerful person who, in his free time, was passionate about sport and especially loved football.

In December 2025, Vasyl Mazorchuk was called up to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Without hesitation, he took up the defence of Ukraine and served in the 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skelia”, conscientiously fulfilling his military duty.

In May 2026, during a combat mission, the soldier sustained severe injuries. Doctors fought for his life for a long time, but the wounds proved to be extremely serious: Vasyl lost his right leg, and his left leg and arm were badly damaged by numerous shrapnel fragments. A long rehabilitation lay ahead, but it was not possible to save the defender.

Following his death, he is mourned by his mother Maria, his sisters Iryna with her family and Karolina, his son Oleksii, his daughters Viktoriia and Oleksandra, as well as his wife Tetiana.

A prayer vigil for the warrior will take place in Novoiavorivsk on 31 July at 12:00 near the monument to Ivan Mazepa. The funeral service will begin at 12:30 in the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The soldier will be laid to rest at the local cemetery in Novoiavorivsk.
