On 6 August, a moving event took place in the village of Perevolochna: serviceman of the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade Petro Andrusyak, known by the callsign ‘Aladdin’, returned home after being held in Russian captivity.
Ukraine’s defender was welcomed in the family yard by his relatives, neighbours, friends, children, clergy, as well as the head of the Sokolivskyi starosta district, Myroslava Leskiv. For the community, it became a moment of shared joy and support for the soldier who had come back after a long separation.
According to available information, in October 2023, while carrying out a combat mission near Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region, Petro Andrusyak was captured by Russian forces. For almost three years, his family and loved ones had been waiting for news of his return. On 5 June 2026, the serviceman returned to Ukraine as part of another prisoner-of-war exchange.
In Perevolochna, people emphasise that this day has become special for the entire village and community — a day of heartfelt embraces, tears of joy and gratitude to the defender for his courage, resilience and loyalty to Ukraine. Residents wish Petro Andrusyak robust health, a speedy recovery, family comfort and a peaceful life.
The community also expresses the hope that all Ukrainian defenders, both men and women, who are currently in captivity, will return home as soon as possible.
