60-year-old war veteran Vasyl Shpytko from Zabužzhia, Lviv region, passed away after illness

On January 19, 2026, Vasyl Ivanovych Shpytko, a resident of Zabužzhia village in Chervonohrad district, Lviv region, and a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, passed away in the hospital after a serious illness.

He was born on April 18, 1965, and spent his entire life in his native village. He studied at the local Zabužzhia school and later worked and started a family. He and his wife had a daughter, Anna.

With the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine on June 29, 2022. He served in the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo and took part in active combat operations in one of the most difficult areas of the Donetsk region, defending Ukraine during martial law.

Due to deteriorating health, he was transferred on November 24, 2022, to the security company of the Volodymyr District Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center, where he continued to serve until April 18, 2025. On that day, he was officially discharged from the Armed Forces upon reaching the age limit of 60.

Following his discharge, his health declined, and on January 19, 2026, he passed away in the hospital.
