56-year-old sapper Valerii Shkilnyi from Sheptytska community dies after illness, funeral announced

A sorrowful event has touched the Sheptytska community — 56-year-old Ukrainian defender Valerii Onufriiovych Shkilnyi has passed away after battling a severe illness.

In 2023, Valerii volunteered to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served as a sapper in the 152nd Separate Jaeger Brigade. During combat operations, he was diagnosed with a serious health condition. Due to his worsening condition, he was demobilized in 2024.

Despite efforts to treat him and the support of his loved ones, the brave defender passed away. His dedication, courage, and life’s work will forever remain in the memory of his comrades and the community.

Heartfelt condolences go out to Valerii Shkilnyi’s family, friends, and fellow soldiers.

Farewell events will take place as follows:

  • January 28 at 19:00 — Requiem service at the Church of Saint Josaphat.
  • January 29 at 14:00 — Funeral ceremony. Valerii Shkilnyi will be buried at the Heroes’ Alley in Bendiuz Cemetery.
