A Mural Honoring Oleh Kavetskyi is Being Created in Sheptytskyi

In Sheptytskyi, work continues on a mural on the facade of Gymnasium No. 2 dedicated to the fallen Defender Oleh Kavetskyi.

The initiative to create the mural arose among Oleh’s comrades. Together with the brother of the fallen warrior, they approached the Lviv Regional State Administration with a proposal to immortalize the memory of the Hero. With the consent of LRSA, this work will become part of the tourist route ‘On the Path to Victory’ within the framework of the ‘SheptytskyiStreetArt’ project.

For a year, the initiative remained an idea until a suitable place for the mural was found. The choice settled on the facade of Gymnasium No. 2, where Oleh studied and where his mother Lesia Kavetska works as a teacher. ‘After consulting with the principal of the gymnasium, Ruslana Vereskun, we decided on the wall of the sports hall,’ says the Hero’s mother.

The comrades insulated the wall at their own expense and prepared it for the mural creation. The artistic work is funded by the military personnel together with the Kavetskyi family. Lviv artists Taras Dovhalyuk and Andriy Savchyshyn are working on the mural. ‘Since we are creating a mural on a school building, we chose a restrained, poster-like style,’ shares artist Andriy Savchyshyn.

Oleh Kavetskyi was a senior sergeant and reconnaissance unit commander of military unit A4126. With the beginning of Russian aggression in 2014, he joined the ranks of the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps ‘Right Sector’. From 2016-2020, he served under contract in the 54th separate mechanized brigade and the 10th separate mountain assault brigade ‘Edelweiss’. After the full-scale invasion, Oleh was appointed commander of a reconnaissance unit. Oleh Kavetskyi heroically died on October 3, 2022, during a combat mission near the village of Myrne in Zaporizhzhia.
