Sokal community is once again mourning — on October 10, 2025, Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Yevhenovych Prostak passed away at the age of 51.
Oleksandr was born on August 4, 1972, in Sokal and studied at local school No. 2. Prior to Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, he signed a military service contract and joined the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade. He honorably fulfilled his duty while defending Ukraine on the eastern front.
In 2023, during the liberation of the Kherson region, Oleksandr sustained injuries and was later demobilized from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
His heart stopped on October 10, 2025.
The funeral service for the fallen Hero will take place on October 14 at 11:00 AM near the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Sokal. After meeting the funeral cortege, a memorial service and burial will follow.
