39-year-old Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Tarasenko from Sosnivka passes away after long illness

On May 25, following a prolonged battle with a serious illness, Oleksandr Tarasenko, a 39-year-old resident of Sosnivka and defender of Ukraine, passed away.

Oleksandr began defending his country in 2015 when he joined the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. He participated in combat operations in the ATO/JFO zone, fighting against Russian aggression.

After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Oleksandr continued his service as a member of the 63rd Separate Battalion of the 103rd Territorial Defense Brigade named after Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. He served there until August 2024.

On May 26 at 1:00 PM, a mourning cortege will depart from the Sheptytska Central City Hospital and head to Sosnivka. Later the same day, at 7:00 PM, a Memorial Service will be held at the UGCC Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Sosnivka.

The funeral ceremony and final farewell will take place on May 27 at 2:00 PM. Oleksandr will be buried with military honors at the Alley of Glory in the Sosnivka cemetery.

The head of Sosnivka, Iryna Kharchuk, extended her condolences to the fallen defender’s family and friends:

“We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his mother, sister, wife, son, relatives, friends, and fellow soldiers. A bright memory of a kind man and brave warrior will live on in our hearts. Eternal memory and glory to the Hero!”
