Veteran and combatant Vasyl Ivanykovych from the village of Stanylia in the Truskavets community has died in Stebnyk City Hospital. The defender of Ukraine passed away on 7 August while being treated for serious illnesses.
Ivanykovych Vasyl Vasylovych was born in the village of Smozhe, Skole district, Lviv region. After finishing secondary school he was called up for compulsory military service, which he performed as a sailor in Odesa region. Later he worked as a driver.
In 1993 Vasyl married Liuba Ivanykovych and started a family. The couple settled in the village of Stanylia, where they raised two daughters together – Vira and Nataliia. He worked in the mine in the town of Stebnyk, in Truskavets and beyond Lviv region.
When russia launched its full-scale invasion, in 2023 Vasyl Ivanykovych again joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. He first served in Zaporizhzhia region, including in Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka and Hulyaipole, in military unit A 4447. He took part in combat operations both on the Zaporizhzhia and the Pokrovsk fronts – in the cities of Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka and Sloviansk, where he served as a driver-electrician in unit A 5193.
After serving on the Donetsk front, he continued to carry out missions in Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions. In 2025, due to illness, he was declared fit for limited service and transferred to military unit A 3267 in Khmelnytskyi region. Despite treatment in military hospitals in Dnipro and Khmelnytskyi, his health deteriorated, and in 2026 Vasyl was discharged from service. He was granted Group I disability status in connection with his military service, but did not manage to complete his pension paperwork – death came first.
The Parastas for Vasyl Ivanykovych will be held on Saturday, 8 August 2026, in the village of Stanylia at 6 Zelenyi Lane. The Parastas will begin at 20:30. The funeral is scheduled for Sunday, 9 August, at 15:00 in the Greek Catholic church in the village of Stanylia.
