In Stebnyk, a farewell ceremony will be held for Ukraine’s defender Roman Kuchera, a native of the town who died while undergoing treatment after being wounded in the war. This was reported by Drohobych City Council.
Roman Kuchera was born on 14 March 1982. He studied at Stebnyk Secondary School No. 18 and later continued his education at Vocational School No. 19 in Drohobych. After completing his studies, he worked at the municipal enterprise “Drohobychvodokanal”.
At the time of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Roman was abroad, but he returned to Ukraine and took up the defence of the country. In 2023–2024 he served in a border commandant’s office. From 2025 he served with the 35th Marine Brigade, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Company, military unit A0216.
While carrying out combat missions to defend Ukraine, the soldier sustained a severe wound. While he was undergoing treatment, on 5 August 2026, the serviceman’s heart stopped.
The fallen defender is survived by his father, mother, brother, two daughters and two grandchildren. Drohobych City Council, the executive committee, Mayor Taras Kuchma and Council Secretary Orest Karakevych expressed their condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Roman Kuchera.
The mourning cortege with the soldier’s body is scheduled to arrive tomorrow at 11:00 at the Heroyiv crossroads. At 11:30, a citywide farewell will take place on Shevchenko Square in Stebnyk. At 12:00, the funeral service will continue at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Stebnyk. The burial will take place at the cemetery on Volodymyr Velykyi Street in Stebnyk.
