Five Heroes Honored at Stryi Gymnasium No. 7
Today, Stryi Gymnasium No. 7 unveiled memorial plaques in honor of five Heroes who studied here in different years: Serhiy Vorochek, Viktor Zaiika, Yuriy Buchko, Serhiy Pliguzov, and Dmytro Sushchyk. The honorable right to unveil the plaques was given to the relatives of the Heroes.
The first deputy mayor, Mykola Dmytryshyn, thanked the parents for raising worthy Ukrainians and patriots, who upheld the integrity of their homeland at the cost of their own lives.
Clerics conducted a blessing and held a requiem service for all Ukrainian warriors whose lives were taken by the war.
Memory Requiem
The Memory Requiem took place with the participation of the relatives of the fallen, comrades-in-arms, the gymnasium community, and local residents.
- 🕯️Serhiy Vorochek (17.03.1968-21.04.2024) – senior sergeant, rifleman of the 2nd rifle company of the military unit. Graduated from VPU No. 34. Lived in Stryi with his family. Died during a combat mission on the outskirts of Ivanivske village in Donetsk region.
- 🕯️Viktor Zaiika (08.02.1975-22.07.2024) – soldier of the Stryi Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Territorial Defense. Joined the ranks of defenders from the first days of the full-scale invasion. Participated in combat in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Was discharged due to a severe diagnosis. Fought the illness for a year but succumbed…
- 🕯️Yuriy Buchko (14.09.1982-14.07.2024) – soldier, rifleman-assistant grenadier. Born and raised in Stryi. Studied at VPU No. 8. Died in the hospital from combat wounds received.
- 🕯️Serhiy Pliguzov (19.05.1975 – 22.08.2024). Served as the chief of staff – deputy commander of the aviation squadron, major. Born in Stryi. Studied at Kharkiv National University of Air Force named after Ivan Kozhedub. Defended the Ukrainian sky from invaders. Died while on duty. Buried in the Avenue of Glory at the cemetery in the Rakove district of Khmelnytsky city.
- 🕯️Dmytro Sushchyk (14.11.1980-6.05.2024) – senior gunner of the 1st grenade launcher platoon. Born and lived in Stryi. Defended Ukraine in 2014. Returned to the front at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Died while performing a combat mission in the area of Semenivka settlement in Donetsk region.
