
In Stryi, on the building where Rostyslav Plechii lived, a memorial plaque in his honour has been solemnly unveiled. The serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
Rostyslav Plechii (22.08.1992–13.06.2023), call sign ‘Matvii’, was a junior lieutenant, a communications platoon commander and a fighter of the National Guard. He was born in the town of Skole and later moved with his family to Stryi, where he studied at school No. 3.
He obtained a law degree at Ternopil National Economic University. From 2013 to 2018 he served in a National Guard military unit in Lviv.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, in the first days of the war, Rostyslav Plechii voluntarily returned to the ranks of the National Guard, remaining faithful to his oath to the people of Ukraine. He was killed together with a comrade-in-arms while carrying out a combat mission in the Bakhmut sector.
The defender is buried in the Alley of Glory in Stryi. By Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 726/2023 of 03.11.2023, he was posthumously awarded the Order ‘For Courage’ III class.
