A memorial plaque has been unveiled in Stryi in honour of Rostyslav Plechii, a defender of Ukraine who was killed in combat with the Russian occupiers. His family, friends, comrades-in-arms, clergy, representatives of the authorities and local residents gathered to pay tribute to his memory.
The commemorative plaque was installed on the building where the serviceman had lived. It bears a line by Lina Kostenko: «І щось в мені таке болить, що це і є, напевно, Україна».
Rostyslav Plechii, call sign “Matvii”, was born in Skole and later moved with his family to Stryi. He obtained a law degree and in 2013–2018 served in units of the National Guard of Ukraine in Lviv.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Rostyslav voluntarily returned to the ranks of the National Guard and later joined the 4th Rapid Response Brigade “Rubizh”.
On the night of 13 June 2023, Second Lieutenant Rostyslav Plechii was killed in action near Spirne in Donetsk region. After his death he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and awarded the Order “For Courage” Third Class.
