Memorial plaques unveiled to nine fallen defenders at Velykodorozhivskyi Lyceum

On Ukraine’s Independence Day, memorial plaques were unveiled at Velykodorozhivskyi Lyceum in honour of nine soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity. The commemoration took place within the walls of the school where the fallen defenders once studied.

The installed plaques are intended to remind pupils and the entire community of the sacrifice, courage and resilience of their fellow villagers who stood up to defend the Motherland and remained faithful to Ukraine until their last breath. The names of the Heroes are now forever inscribed in the history of the educational institution and of independent Ukraine.

The memorial plaques immortalise the names of nine fallen soldiers:

  • Kočan Oleksii Vasylovych
  • Furta Ihor Mykhailovych
  • Dovhanyk Oleh Ihorovych
  • Fys Andrii Mykhailovych
  • Voronovskyi Yurii Yuriiovych
  • Zhuk Andrii Yanovych
  • Vovkun Yaroslav Mykhailovych
  • Zhiltsov Mykhailo Mykhailovych
  • Burak Mykhailo Bohdanovych

The school emphasises that from now on every generation of pupils, as they pass by the memorial plaques, will understand that Ukraine’s freedom and independence have been won at the cost of human lives. The memory of the fallen defenders remains alive in the hearts of their fellow villagers and the entire community.

Those present at the unveiling bowed their heads in tribute to the Heroes and expressed their gratitude to their families — parents, mothers, wives and children, who are enduring an irreparable loss yet preserve the memory of their loved ones.
