With great sorrow, the Velikomosti community reports the tragic loss: their Defender, Nazar Volkov, has perished. Nazar Volkov Mykhailovych, a native of the village of Boyanets, resided in the city of Veliki Mosti. He fought in the air assault battalion of military unit A0284, 80th air assault brigade. He died in the battle for Ukraine’s independence on December 21, 2024, near the village of Ruskye Poriche in the Kursk region of Russia. Since December 2024, Nazar was considered missing, which became a painful ordeal for his family. His wife Natalia actively searched for him, appealing to authorities and participating in rallies. The entire family lived in hope that he would return. But today, the news of his death became known.
Nazar was a true warrior: since 2014, he participated in combat operations, and on February 25, 2022, he voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine to resist the invasion. He took part in significant battles of this war:
- the destruction of the occupiers’ crossing over the Siverskyi Donets, May 2022;
- the Kharkiv counteroffensive and the liberation of Balakliya, September 2022;
- fierce battles for Bakhmut, the defense and liberation of Klishchiivka, 2023;
- combat missions in the Kursk region from August 2024.
He remained devoted to Ukraine and his military oath to his last breath. To his family, he was a loving husband and father, leaving behind his wife Natalia, little daughter Jan, parents, brother, and sister in grief. This is a great loss also for the Velikomosti City Council, whose staff supported the warrior’s wife in times of uncertainty, observing her strength and faith. Nazar gave his life for the freedom of Ukraine, for the peaceful future of the state.
Information about the arrival of the Hero “on the shield” and the organization of the funeral will be announced later. Eternal memory to the Defender. Sincere condolences to the family and everyone who knew and valued him.
