Events were held in Yavoriv to mark the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, which is traditionally celebrated together with the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Residents of the Yavoriv community gathered to thank all those who defend the independence and territorial integrity of the state.
During the ceremony, they remembered service personnel from various units, formations, brigades and detachments who took part in the defence of Ukraine and continue to serve far from home, risking their lives for the safety of their fellow citizens.
To mark the occasion, the Mayor of Yavoriv presented honorary awards to members of the community serving in the Armed Forces: veterans, former service personnel, defenders who had returned from captivity, border guards, volunteers, as well as currently serving members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The families of fallen soldiers, those missing in action and prisoners of war were also present at the event. For them, words about the defenders have a special meaning, and the community expressed its support and gratitude for the contribution their loved ones have made to the defence of the country.
The Yavoriv community stressed that they remember everyone who gave their life for Ukraine and pray for the soldiers who are now on the front line. Defenders were thanked for their courage, strength and resilience, which allow people to live in their homes.
The organisation and holding of the events were supported by the Department of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sport of the Yavoriv City Council, the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo and the War Veterans Support Centre of the Yavoriv City Council.
