Today, on Heroes of Maidan Street, the NGO ‘Living in Waiting’ gathered relatives of missing and captured defenders for a silent rally.
In their hands, they hold flags and portraits of their dearest – sons, husbands, brothers, fathers who have not returned from the war. But today the families gathered not only to remind us of how many human destinies remain unknown, how many defenders are still being searched for and awaited. They have another mission — to collect signatures for the dignified honoring of the families of missing and captured defenders.
‘Today, we are not just holding a silent rally. We are collecting signatures so that August 30, the International Day of the Disappeared, is officially recognized in our city. We are also advocating for the installation of a “sign of hope.” This should be an installation in the form of a cube with light inside, and on the outside, photos of our defenders. If someone returns from captivity, their photo is removed, and in its place, a beam of light remains, symbolizing the return home to their loved ones.’, – notes Iryna Romankova, a representative of the NGO ‘Living in Waiting.’
