Infantry Day is celebrated in Ukraine on May 6

On May 6, the Day of the Infantry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is celebrated. Such a decree was signed by President Poroshenko in 2019.

The date became symbolic, because on this day, May 6, 1648, led by Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, the Battle of Zhovty Vody took place against the troops of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Ukrainian Cossacks won. And on May 6, the church calendar honors the memory of Yury Zmieborets, who is considered the patron saint of the Ukrainian army.

“Without you, it is impossible to attack and defend. You are always where hell is. You took part in all the most important battles for the liberation of our territories from the enemy, and every day you continue to fight for Ukraine to return everything that belongs to it. Happy Infantry Day! Happy Day to everyone involved”, – the head of Lviv OVA Maksym Kozytskyi.
