In Velyki Mosty, a mourning ceremony was held to bid farewell to the country’s defender, Senior Sergeant Vasyl Burko. The community, kneeling in silence and prayer, escorted him on his final journey. He gave his life for Ukraine. Burko was buried with military honours at the local cemetery to the sound of a military band and a gun salute.
A profound grief engulfed his family. His mother was left without a son, and his own son without a father, a figure he saw as a pillar of strength and example. The loss was felt by sisters, brothers, and his wife. Vasyl served in military unit A1451 in Kharkiv. On 12th April 2026, during a combat mission near the settlement of Starytsia in the Kharkiv region, he demonstrated bravery and resilience, remaining faithful to his oath.
It is particularly painful that Vasyl’s life was cut short on a major Christian holiday — the Resurrection of Christ. On this day, which symbolises life and hope, Ukraine lost yet another loyal son. The community honoured the memory of this Hero of Ukraine with deep reverence, urging people not to forget his sacrifice.
