In the Velyki Mosty community, two years have passed since the death of defender Nazarii Syroizhko, who gave his life defending Ukraine in the Donetsk sector.
Nazarii Syroizhko was born in the village of Butyny. After finishing Butyny school, he trained as an electric and gas welder and worked in construction. Colleagues and acquaintances remember him as a kind, honest and fair person with a sincere attitude towards others.
With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, following the example of his brother, who was already serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Nazarii decided to take up the defence of the country. On 18 March 2022, he joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders and was appointed a grenadier in the National Guard of Ukraine in military unit 3002. In the Donetsk sector, the soldier conscientiously carried out combat missions, defended positions and supported his comrades-in-arms. His fellow soldiers remember him as an optimistic, brave and experienced warrior and a reliable friend.
On 19 August 2024, near the settlement of Vodiane in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk region, Nazarii Syroizhko fought his final battle. During the enemy’s assault operations, he sustained gunshot and shrapnel wounds incompatible with life, yet he did not retreat and held the line to the end.
The defender was laid to rest on 24 August 2024, Ukraine’s Independence Day, at the cemetery in Zhovkva. Nazarii Syroizhko is survived by his wife, two daughters, mother and brother, for whom his loss has become an unspeakable grief.
For his courage and selfless service, Nazarii was awarded the Presidential decoration of Ukraine “For the Defence of Ukraine”. Posthumously, he was awarded the Order “For Courage” III class and granted the honorary title “Hero of the Velyki Mosty Territorial Community”.
