Velyki Mosty community honours the memory of defender Vasyl Saikov

In the Velyki Mosty community, people remember Vasyl Oleksandrovych Saikov, who gave his life for Ukraine. Two years have passed since the community lost its defender.

Vasyl Saikov was born and raised in the village of Butyny. He is remembered as a sincere, hard-working and kind-hearted person who loved music, worked diligently, was a caring husband, father of two sons and a steadfast support for his family.

From the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he unhesitatingly stepped forward to defend the country. On 3 March 2022, he voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade. Together with his comrades-in-arms, he fought on the most difficult sections of the front line — in Sievierodonetsk, Lyman, Izium, Klishchiivka and other hotspots.

During his service, Vasyl sustained wounds and poisoning from an unknown chemical substance, but after treatment he returned to his unit, considering it his duty to continue defending the Motherland.

On 8 July 2024, Vasyl Saikov went missing. For his family, a long period of waiting and hoping for his return began. Later, an official notification arrived: the serviceman had been killed, bravely carrying out a combat mission near Klishchiivka in Donetsk region.

The community stresses that even as time passes, the memory of the defender does not fade. Vasyl Saikov gave his life for Ukraine’s freedom, for the future of children and for a peaceful sky over the country. The residents of the Velyki Mosty community bow their heads in honour of his blessed memory and extend their sincere condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the fallen warrior.
