Yurii Pyts, an operator in the optical-electronic reconnaissance section of an artillery reconnaissance battalion, was killed on 28 September 2026 on the outskirts of the village of Maiaky, Kramatorsk district, Donetsk region, while performing his military duty.
Yurii Pyts was born on 6 May 1980 and lived all his life in Stryi. He studied at Stryi Lyceum No. 3, the I. Baranych Stryi Gymnasium (formerly School No. 8), as well as at Stryi Vocational School No. 34.
Before his service he worked abroad and at the “Leoni” enterprise. In March 2025 he was mobilised into the army. During his service, the soldier repeatedly received commendations, in particular he was awarded the breast badge of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine “Cross of the Land Forces”.
The warrior was devoted to his military oath and, according to reports, died defending Ukraine. He did not have a family of his own. His mother has been left without her son, and his brother, sister, young niece and the fallen defender’s comrades-in-arms mourn his loss.
