The residents of Turka are once again in mourning over the loss of a brave defender of Ukraine. On 15 April 2026, while fulfilling his military duty, a local resident, Yuriy Surmay, was killed. He served as the senior rifleman and flamethrower operator in the 1st mechanised section of the 1st mechanised platoon of the 5th mechanised company of the 2nd mechanised battalion of military unit 0998.
Yuriy’s cherished memory will remain in the hearts of his fellow townspeople as a true warrior who gave his life for Ukraine. The Turka City Council and the entire community express their deepest condolences to the Hero’s family and friends. In these difficult times, the community shares the pain of their irreplaceable loss.
