On 2 September 2024, while fulfilling his military duty to defend Ukraine from Russian armed aggression, Junior Sergeant Roman Markevych, born in 1973 and a native of Komarno, Lypʼia Street, was killed.
He fought his last battle near the settlement of Prechystivka in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk region. After the battle, Roman Markevych was listed as missing for a long time.
The defender of Ukraine gave his life for the state, its freedom and a peaceful future for Ukrainians. The community extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the fallen serviceman and honours his memory.
