
Yuriy Markiv, a resident of the Drohobych community, died while defending Ukraine from the enemy.
The warrior was born on October 29, 1988, in Drohobych. He graduated from school No. 17 and later studied at the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University. In recent years, Yuriy lived in the village of Lishnia in the Drohobych community. After completing his education, he mostly worked abroad.
A few years ago, he returned to Ukraine and joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders during the full-scale war. The warrior stood in defense of Ukraine from the enemy as part of the 254th separate battalion of the 118th separate brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Yuriy Markiv died on September 1, 2024, near the settlement of Vodiane in the Donetsk region, while performing a combat mission to protect Ukraine from the enemy. For a long time, the warrior was considered missing. Only now has the fighter’s death been officially confirmed, and after identification, his body can be returned to his hometown for farewell.
He is survived by his mother and sister. The Drohobych City Council, its executive committee, Mayor Taras Kuchma, and Council Secretary Orest Karakevych express their sincere condolences to the family, relatives, close ones, and friends regarding the death of our compatriot and Hero, Yuriy Markiv.
