Vasyl Hukalo, a defender from the Yavoriv community, received the honorary title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) and the Order of the Golden Star
Vasyl Hukalo is a native of the village of Zaluzhzhia. He first volunteered to defend the country in May 2015.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the defender returned from abroad and joined the ranks of the 63rd separate mechanized brigade on February 26.
He was a scout. He fought in the hottest spots of the front, liberated Kherson region and defended Bakhmut. In this area, he heroically evacuated wounded soldiers. He died on April 21, 2023, from an air strike in Donetsk region.
Today, his family received the Hero of Ukraine award from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally.
