Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to two defenders who died in battle with the occupiers

Tomorrow, on 6 September, Lviv residents and visitors are urged to join the city’s farewell ceremonies for defenders Volodymyr Leontiev and Ivan Talpa.

The mayor’s office asks to refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during the farewell ceremony.

The farewell and funeral service for the soldiers Volodymyr Leontyev and Ivan Talpa will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul in Lviv, and at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

The defenders will then be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Biographical information about the defenders

Ivan Talpa (20.05.1991 – 01.09.2024) was born in the village of Novi Butory, Odesa region.

He studied at a local school. He received his vocational education as a tractor driver in agricultural production at the State Vocational Educational Institution “Frunziv Vocational Agricultural School”.

He graduated from the National Army Academy named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi. He served in the military service in Mykolaiv.

Participant of the anti-terrorist operation. During heavy fighting near Ilovaisk, he was wounded. Later, he joined the 28th separate mechanised brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign of the operational command “South” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he continued to defend the state during the full-scale invasion. He performed combat missions in Mykolaiv, Kherson and Donetsk regions.

He was awarded the medal “For Courage, III degree”.

According to his family, Ivan was extremely positive, cheerful and smiling, fond of military affairs, led a healthy lifestyle, was hardworking, and helped everyone. He was a loving father, very fond of his son Artem, who was the most important thing in his life.

Ivan Talpa is survived by his wife, son, mother, brother and sister.

Volodymyr Leontiev (17.08.1999 – 02.09.2024) was a resident of Lviv.

He studied at the Sknylivka gymnasium named after the Righteous Andrey Sheptytsky of the Zymnovodivka village council of the Lviv district, Lviv region. He completed his vocational education at Higher Vocational School No. 29 in Lviv.

After graduation, he worked as a bartender in catering establishments.

He took a course for drone pilots and loved doing this. According to his family, Volodymyr saw himself in the army, wanted to be a soldier and dedicated his life to it, always smiling and cheerful.

During the full-scale Russian invasion, he voluntarily joined the 67th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend Ukraine. He performed combat missions along the entire front line.

He was awarded the “Participant in Combat Operations” insignia.

Volodymyr Leontiev is survived by his parents, brother, two grandparents.
