Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Ihor Hrunyk and Serhiy Kushnir

On Monday, March 4, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Ihor Hrunyk and Serhiy Kushnir, who defended Ukraine from Russian occupiers. Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, and at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. The burial will follow: Ihor Hrunyk will be buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery and Serhiy Kushnir at the Holoskiv Cemetery.

Biographical information on the defenders

 

Ihor Hrunyk (19.05.1981-25.02.2024) Lviv resident. Until the age of 18, he lived in the village of Velykosilky, Lviv region.

He studied at a general secondary education institution of I-III levels and preschool education in the village of Velykosilky. He graduated from the State Educational Institution “Lviv Interregional Higher Vocational School of Railway Transport”.

He served in the military in the ranks of the airborne assault troops, first in the Kharkiv region, and later in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

He lived with his family in the Italian Republic, where he worked in a bakery. He was fond of fishing and cooking. He was extremely cheerful and kind, had a large number of friends.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned from abroad and voluntarily defended the state against the invaders. At first, he joined the territorial defense forces, and later performed combat missions as part of the 95th separate Polissia Air Assault Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ihor Hrunyk is survived by his parents, wife, 11-year-old son and brother with his family.

Serhiy Kushnir (15.06.1975-27.02.2024) A resident of Lviv.

He studied at the Intellect Lyceum of the Lviv City Council (then a specialized school #69). He graduated from the Institute of Energy and Control Systems of Lviv Polytechnic National University. He graduated from the military department at the university.

After graduation, he worked at the State Enterprise “National Energy Company “Ukrenergo”, Western Electric Power System.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to defend his homeland from the occupiers. After completing the training, he performed combat missions to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state in the eastern direction in the ranks of the 114th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Western Air Command of the Air Force of Ukraine.

Serhiy Kushnir is survived by his mother, brother, wife and 9-year-old son.
